Today marks three years since I started this thread.
It’s proved to be a long-lived thread. It’s received almost 2100 posts and over 250,000 views since 12/31/2020.
The MYGA market has changed a lot since late 2020. Back then, many MYGA rates were in the 2.50-3.00% range, which seems low today. But those rates were attractive compared to bond funds that were paying less than 1% at the time. Folks who bought MYGAs at that time (and especially those who have made free partial withdrawals) have generally come out well compared to those who purchased bond funds then.
MYGA rates have recently touched 6%, mirroring the rise in general market rates. I have viewed some MYGAs as attractive for purchase in the last few weeks, as MYGA rates have generally lagged the decline in market rates.
I appreciate all those folks (probably over 100) who have posted to this thread. And I hope that this thread has been useful to many others in the Boglehead audience.
