While I am not recommending it when an advisor moves on from one firm to another some customers follow the advisor to the new firm or advisory group if they want continuity of management. You should likely give serious thought to self-management or use of Vanguard. If you search for the current whereabouts of the prior investment manager continuing the relationship will likely remain costly and merely kick the tax can down the road if you maintain the same positions.
If you change to a new advisor most of them will simply sell everything and let you deal with the taxes involved.
