Personal Investments • Re: T-Bills vs HYSA? 4.7 YTM vs 4.25 APY?

I have about 100,000 USD that was in my HYSA earning 4.25% APY. I used to get $350 per month in interest. ... I bought T-Bills that had YTM of 4.72% and with maturity date of 25 days in the future. With 4.72% YTM, I was able to get T-Bills for a discount of $280.
Your figures don't compute, pagetrip. With a 4.72% Investment Rate (T-bill equivalent of YTM), the discount would be $322, not $280.

Code:

Row            Col A     Col B   Formual in Column B  2       Face value   100,000  3   Days in period        25  4     Days in year       365  5  Investment rate    4.720%  6            Price    99.678  =100/(1+B5*(B3/B4))  7         Discount       322  =B2*(1-B6/100)
In comparison the interest at a 4.25% APY over 25 days would only be $285.
285 = (100000 - 322) * (1.0425^(25/365) -1)
