I guess I'm seeing different numbers than you did. Everywhere I look I see that 2025 MFJ is going to be $96,949 for the top end of the 12% bracket.

https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-releas ... -year-2025
  • 24% for incomes over $206,700 for married couples filing jointly
  • 22% for incomes over $96,950
  • 12% for incomes over $23,850
  • 10% for incomes of $23,850 or less

And looking for 2026 data with TCJA expiring shows a similar incremental increase, like $99,199. Note that the bracket percents change also.
https://taxfoundation.org/blog/2026-tax ... t-expires/
"2026 Joint Filer Thresholds if TCJA Expires"
  • 28% for incomes over $200,100 for married couples filing jointly
  • 25% for incomes over $99,200
  • 15% for incomes over $24,400
  • 10% for incomes of $24,400 or less
These discrepancies always make it so hard to be confident. And that is especially risky if they don't get clear about the cap gains cliff. Thanks you for having this conversation and getting me closer to an accurate answer.
