Personal Investments • Re: 10 yr nominal bond too long at age 60?

My wife and I aren't collecting yet, she hits FRA in April. I've been withdrawing from my IRA for us to live and buying various T Bills to help soften the amount of the withdrawals. My intention is to wait until 70 since I was a higher earner than my wife, not sure what we are doing with her SS yet although these days I'm leaning toward her taking it in April. There is a 5 year TIPS auction coming in April that I plan on using and building a ladder with.
I ran some scenarios on OpenSocialSecurity ... my wife's SS is low enough that it really doesn't pay for her to wait to collect beyond age 62. With her SS and the treasury rung maturing yearly, that should cover about 50% of normal expenses.

I'll be watching the 5 year TIPs auction this spring also. We have I Bonds that reach the 5 year holding period that same time period, so we'll have to see how the rates are looking then. If the TIPs are looking good the I Bonds can be shifted to a later year/rung.
