I came to CA 'by accident' 25 years ago. It's good having a choice of countries. Downside is being married to the IRS.
Will you still keep your UK bank? They might make some noise about taking large deposits/investments, from abroad.
In terms of carrying a lot of dosh in person, back to the UK...I don't think there's any law/regulation against, you just have to note it in a form.
And of course have a good explanation with evidence.
Again, not against the law but a customs officer can question you.
