Got ya. Risk vs Fixed -- the struggle is real. Boils down to a balance of needs, risk tolerance, market conditions and market awareness.We are renting for now, and when the house sells we will be flush with cash. $330k cash eq. + proceeds from sale of home (1.5m+ total) . The harder question in my mind is how much to keep in treasuries vs. index fund like SP500 from this life event.
After the first two to three years our expenses should drop quite a bit closer to wife's income. But even in the early higher withdraw years we don't need much more than the 4% treasuries would provide, but otherwise we draw down the balance some. Less than $1m is enough to find a really nice home in our target area if we choose to buy.
