Personal Investments • When/why did you decide on a global market cap weight?

I'm a US citizen and plan on spending the rest of my life in the US. For the equities portion of my portfolio, I'm currently at 75% US, 25% ex-US, and I've been at that position for the past 5 years since I found this forum. I don't regret the underperformance of ex-US during this timeframe.

Lately, I've been considering shifting towards a global weight for equities (currently at about 65% US, 35% ex-US) to hedge against single country risk. I understand the arguments on both sides for someone in my situation.

For those of you who are committed to a global weight of equities, I'm curious about whether there was a single incident that pushed you to that position, if it was a gradual process, or if you simply started at that position.
