The market (on a long term basis) has never, not gone up. So, long term equities are always going to be the answer. Short term, equities would be the equivalent of going to Vegas.

An emergency fund should be left in Cash/SPAXX. Get your 5% and keep on keeping on
Plenty of markets have not only not gone up, they've either closed forever or fallen and failed to ever recover to previous highs. Markets going up, even over long time horizons, is absolutely not a forgone conclusion.
THE market. The DOW, the S&P 500, the NASDAQ. All of it. You know what I meant.

THE stock market has gone up without fail over time and after any dive always recovers (at some point) and goes to new highs, and if it ever does not......this everything-goes-to-hell scenario that so many are fearful of......then none of this matters because at that point you better be more worried about food, ammo, and clean water.
