Personal Investments • Re: Asset Allocation Without Tax Consequences?

Thanks everyone for these replies, I find them very helpful and I'm learning a lot here. This may seem like a dumb question, but is there ever a good reason to buy a mutual fund that is 100% equities that isn't either part of a 401k investment or a IRA/Roth IRA, HSA etc.? It seems like there are so many out of these funds out there and yet I feel nervous about holding onto them as I approach retirement because at that point I would think it would be best to be more heavily invested in bonds that are less prone to market fluctuations. Should you always invest in target funds instead?
