55/45 stock/bond? At age 75, do you need to take that much risk. Do you need to take risk?
I own zero stock, but if I did, I would only own VTI because it covers all stocks and the expense ratio is probably lower than anything else available.
FZROX very closely approximates total stock market (and zero expense ratio, lower than VTI), and FTIHX very closely approximates total international stock market, also lower expense ratio than VXUS/VTIAX
Fixed income? I vote that fixed income should be all treasuries or CDs with zero expenses. Why pay expenses when you can easily do it yourself. Fixed income in my opinion should only be the highest quality. Why own corporate bonds when you can own treasuries or CDs. AAA Munis would work for advanced investors with high income.
This I agree with very much. FXNAX and other total bond funds lost 0.8% year-to-date, or an annualized loss rate of 3.2%. While they could have earned 5% annualized by investing in treasuries and money market. That's a difference of 8% annualized, which is what you should expect on a 100% stocks allocation!
