Interesting that you would put Edward Jones and Fidelity in one line. The former is a rip-off; the latter is legit and is not "higher cost" at all. You can manage your own portfolio.
To the last paragraph - TLH and using low cost funds is orthogonal. I would not pay for automatic TLH. It is easy to do on your own and is situational. You can TLH at Vanguard and you can certainly buy low cost funds at Fidelity. You seem to have written your message under the assumption that you can't.
