My view on fixed income is that for most Bogleheads, using fixed income in deferred accounts will probably result in pretty close to zero real return net of taxes. Sure, some years you'll get a good return, and others ... we've seen examples of that lately. So I think you need to reset your expectations. Having said that I still have about 50% fixed income myself, because other investments have their own issues.
