I am sick of stocks. I thought I read from Bogleheads that Total Stock Market is all I need. I thought I was going to have a historical return of 10%, but my last 10 year return was 1.20%. In the mean time, the bonds I could have purchased is returning 6.09%. What happen to that time will make stock safer? I am looking for alternate asset to stocks. If you think my numbers are crazy, it is because I am an investor in 2010.
This is not to make fun recent complains about the return of bonds, but to point out the variability of return. Return of period of 10 years or so can be quite variable. People should not make decision based on last 2 years or even the last 10 year of return. Basing your next 10 years based on your info from the previous 10 years is perilous in my opinion.
I also thought this discussion might serve as a counter-context to the current series of discussion
