It's really interesting how human nature works,
if you stand back and look at it really closely.
When the Titanic (deemed unsinkable and proudly proclaimed to be so!)
was racing toward NY, that wasn't good enough.
"Let's really show 'em how good we are! Step on the gas!"
Totally unaware of the iceberg "destiny" had put in their path.
Had their pride (and arrogance?) not come into play, they might have missed that iceberg totally, and then Leo DiCaprio (among others) would have missed out on all those applause, and their Oscars.
Whenever I smell a little too much "over-confidence" in the air, I always get a flash of that image from those WWII documentaries I've seen of Berlin, in say 1940,
at the beginning of "the 1,000 year reign." (or so they thought)
Then it's immediately followed by a mental flash of those same women who were strutting around all dolled up in high heels, and were once walking past those very elegant buildings that are now just rubble.
And now, those same women are strung out in lines, passing by hand the rubble of those once elegant buildings to each other, while dressed in rags. And this is ONLY a few years later. Say 1945. They sure never saw that one coming!
Same with the Titanic. When it shoved off from Europe that day, everybody was partying and popping champagne and snapping pics. In that moment, they must have felt that they were on top of the world, and considered themselves as the luckiest (and no doubt "best") people alive.
Yet only a few days later, the party came to an abrupt end.
Suddenly everybody had more pressing issues to deal with,
like surviving, rather than popping champagne or snapping pics.
And once again, nobody saw it coming.
They had "over-confidently" been too busy making plans for their arrival in NY,
with all the fanfare and newspaper photographers who were going to be there put them on the front page of every newspaper around the world.
They were no doubt a little too busy (and distracted ) to ever even consider the possibility that "something" might get in their way.
People are a very interesting animal.
Definitely the strangest (and most self-destructive) on this planet.
This saying has been around a very long time: "Pride goeth before a fall."
And they still don't "get it!" Truly amazing I must say.
Well I hope everything works out, but only time will tell for sure.
