Sometimes it’s the simplest line that makes me smile and chuckle, and this one got me.Oh dear. You gotta stop doing those things.
________
Anytime someone has a series of posts where they are talking about the price of something like VTI they bought at I just shake my head a bit. I can’t see any good coming from fretting or even knowing about the price of a share. I buy on a set date with a set amount. The only exception is the annual purchase we make in December after our bonuses come in. That purchase happens after some end of year accounting and next year planning.
Having this mentality and practice has definitely helped prevent remorse and thus a lot of potentially bad moves. Market crashes a couple percent a day after our monthly buy? Well, that purchase was basically made a decade+ ago when I entered the automatic investment plan in the Vanguard system. Fear about next month's investment? Same, and certainly shouldn’t make a change due to something that hasn’t happened.
It takes time to build the knowledge and experience base. I am a couple years from having to reverse things and start selling. I expect to have some additional lessons to learn.
